California Olive Ranch
California Olive Ranch approached us at the beginning of the 2020 to design a modular shipping system for their iconic glass bottles that could contain different sized bottles.
The images at the bottom of the page show a functional system that could ship six 1 liter glass bottles of olive oil and survive a rigorous drop test.
We suggested that we pursue an exercise in lightweighting their packaging system that would make the containers and shipping boxes lighter, more durable and reduce shipping costs. This system of lightweight printed Aluminum bottles and bag-in-a-box containers is shown below.
For packages larger than 1 liter they were using a blow molded PET bottle, however they were using the same blank for multiple sizes which meant that the larger the bottle got the thinner the wall thickness was and the flimsier it became.
The flimsy 2L bottles were difficult to pour from and were often damaged. Switching to a bag-in-a-box made shipping and dispensing easier, and it also created a much larger artwork surface when retailed and in the pantry.
