West by Three was the first iteration of a micro-brewery founded in 2016 by myself and my longtime friend Richard Axon.
Below is a collection of some of the artwork, labels, branding, merchandise and event posters that I created for the brewery over the 2 years it was in existence from 2016 - 2018.
I had a lot of fun starting out with the eclectic small batch Pilot Series, with its vibrant colour-coded labeling system. Developing a core line of bottled products was a great exercise in consistency and I was able to flex my experience in designing product and packaging systems.
We were lucky to be featured at a tap takeover in the Tate Modern bar where I presented our story, the thinking behind the branding and artwork, and most importantly the beers.
Our range of Goses won us a coveted spot on the We Are Beer, Raise The Bar best newcomers bar at the Edinburgh, London & Bristol beer festivals. As part of the event we were asked to create a range of bottled beers that were shipped out to 50,000 Beer52 monthly subscribers.
Unfortunately, not all publicity is good publicity and with our new found notoriety came a cease and desist letter regarding our trademarked brand name. Another brand had a competing trademark and we were forced after an expensive year of legal letter writing to call it a day and rebrand, you can read more about it here.
